Penllergare Valley Woods is a secret and magical place, situated just minutes from Junction 47 of the M4 near Swansea in South West Wales. The Victorian estate was previously the home of John Dillwyn Llewelyn the renowned horticulturist, pioneering photographer and astronomer and consists of over a hundred hectares of mixed woodland, two lakes, seven miles of peaceful woodland walks and over five hundred years of Welsh history. The site is also known for its spectacular waterfall on the River Llan, which meanders through the estate.
Today the site is managed by the Penllergare Trust who have spent the last twenty years restoring and conserving this unique, family orientated, visitor attraction. To support the restoration programme the Trust has established a coffee shop and car park.

Penllergare Valley Woods is situated just off Junction 47 of the M4 on the A48
Penllergare TrustOur car park is open daily 9am - 5pm.
Parking costs £3 for up to three hours and £4 for all day. You can pay by coin or card. The car park barriers are locked at 5pm.

The work on the gardens at Penllergare Estate between 1850 to 1927 saw the site being recognised as one of the foremost gardens in the country. So much so that a newspaper article in 1910 stated that: “The thing that really makes Penllergaer unique is the wonderful undergrowth of rhododendrons and azaleas. Nowhere else in the United Kingdom will you see such a remarkable variety of species and hybrids”. South Wales Daily News 20th August 1910.
